BoCA :: Caterina Barbieri

Caterina Barbieri's music derives from her thoughts on primary waves and the polyrhythmic dance of harmonics in synthetic sounds, somewhere between the drone, minimalism and techno. Through her modular minimalist language, Caterina Barbieri explores the psychophysical effects of repetition and pattern-based operations in music. She researches the polyphonic and polyrhythmic potential of sequencers in order to draw complex geometries in time and space.
Her algorithmic approach to composition, rooted in both minimalism and the Indian tradition, along with her pragmatic attitude towards sequences, unfolds in surprisingly organic, almost tangible sound images, to which she refers as "ecstatic computation". Barbieri is a master of the potentially hypnotic effects of psychoacoustic repetition on the human mind.
