Premiere

Inspired by the roly-poly toy, a half sphere was built to be the stage. The performer evolves, on top of it, in a durational choreography. During this performance the stage and the performer will continuously be on the move for 24h.

Short Bio:

Gustavo Sumpta was born in Luanda in 1970. He lives and works in Lisbon.
Performer, visual artist and film actor. He attended a professional course in interpretation at Balleteatro, Porto, Portugal. Worked with the choreographer João Fiadeiro as a performer and author in the productions: Existência in 2002, Para onde vai a luz quando se apaga and Case Study, RE.AL, in 2006. He taught Sculpture at Ar.co, in Lisbon, from 2009 to 2013.

In 2020, in the Grande Auditório of the Gulbenkian Foundation, he presented O melhor Mundo possível and Primeira lição de voo in as part of the Summer Gardens program. At the Festival Cumplicidades, Culturgest, Lisbon, he showed the performance Levantar o Mundo. In 2017, he participated in Anozero in Coimbra - Curar e Reparar - where he first performed Levantar o Mundo; in the same year of his solo exhibition Die Zunge an den Gaumen nähen, Rosalux-The Berlin-based art space, Berlin, Germany. In 2015 she showed Pó de Lâmpada, Turbine Hall Festival, Giswil, Switzerland. Comboio Fantasma, single presentation performance at Calçada do Combro, Lisbon, Portugal, in 2014. In 2013, he took part in the group shows A Natureza ri da Cultura, Museu da Luz, Alqueva, Portugal, and O Fim da Violência, Museu Bernardo, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. In 2012, he created the sculpture for the public space Sai das unhas, at Casa independente, Largo do Intendente, Lisbon, Portugal. In 2010 he made the single presentation of the performance A raiz da fruta, Festival Point d impact, Genéve, Switzerland. In 2009 he participated in Gyumri Biennial, Ethnographic Museum of Gyumri, Armenia. In 2008 he presents Assim não vais longe. Premiere in the context of the Cycle of performances presented at the RE.AL studio, which included all his work since 2004. In 2007 he participated in the EDP Prize, Novos artistas, Central do Freixo, Porto, Portugal. In 2005 he showed the performance Vitória, vitória, acabou se a história, Toxic, Fundição de Oeiras, Portugal. And Lab 11, in 2005, at the RE.AL studio. He worked as a theater actor at Artistas Unidos, in BAAL and O Navio dos Negros, directed by Jorge Silva Melo. In the cinema he worked with José Nascimento, Ben Rivers and Gabriel Abrantes, João Botelho, Sebastião Salgado, João Viana, Teresa Prata, João Mário Grilo, Diogo Costa Amarante, Manuel Mozos, Pedro Costa and Vasco Saltão.
